I will start with the ugly question first. Ugly is not the same for everyone. Some people look ugly, but for some crazy reason they look cute. Ugly can be cultural. Have you ever seen that Twilight Zone where everyone looked gross but there was one gorgeous woman, but they found her looks hideous. The area you are talking about needs a lot of philosophical attention without including God in the picture. Scientists have been studying this, what's considered beautiful and why. I think that there is some consensus by scientists that beautiful is perceived or recognized by our uniformity or "averageness" of appearance. They go on to say these characteristics are indicators of good health, etc. That we are programmed to seek "beauty" as a practical basis for mating with those who carry the best odds of perpetuating our kind. Guys with more even ears are more athletically gifted, etc. As far as putting God in the center of this question is interesting, but involves even more analysis than does of looking at this from a purely human point of view. The Bible says that God is a spirit and they that worship him must worship Him in spirit and truth. I don't think God is impressed by those of us who have physical beauty. There are plenty of people in the Bible who are mentioned as being beautiful and I don't see them getting special treatment because they were beautiful. If anything their beauty caused problems. God is not impressed by our physical attributes, our face, our strength, our stature, our gorgeous voices. The bible outright says God does not delight in the strength of man. What he wants is humility before him. A recognition that He is our father and will supply us with what we need. I understand your question is well worth pursuing further in both scientifically human and spiritually. There are some gorgeous people who have been hideously misshappen due to being in a severe fire and they will always look hideous in this life. I know that is somewhere I never hope to be. Yet this person is filled with a love of life and respect fro their fellow human beings and I believe God too. We all struggle I imagine feeling satisfactory enough over our daily appearance, but I believe being made in God's own image is a metaphorical statement regarding our inner character or disposition to have moral thought and the ability to act on those individual moral thoughts however we may choose.

Well, when making people, God took ideas from the Forms, but since the transition from Forms to actual material doesn't always translate well, because the elements (Air, Fire, Water, Earth) can't accurately describe the Forms, ugly people are made.
At least that's what Ancient Greek people (Plato/Aristotle) thought, well not about the whole ugly thing.
but then again ugly is in the eye of the beholder, right? or is it beauty....

Actually this is a horrible question. Perhaps you wouldn't ask this question if you didn't have such a big ego about your own looks.

define ugly.....what is beautiful to some, may not be beautiful to another. There are other ways to be beautiful besides appearance.
I have yet to meet a truly ugly person, as all of us have some spark of beauty- in manner, appearance, speech, character, or outlook.

Ugliness is a psychological perception. If there is a God, that God transcends all our psychological perceptions.

Figurative language. Most people don't take the bible as literal truth. "Image" more likely refers to the soul, or some might say the ability given to man to choose goodness over evil, or lesser goods.
