You can certainly use a RJ-45 coupler as others have suggested but cable is cheap. Any time you add a connector you risk problems in your connection. If you shop around you will find a cable to go the entire length for probably not much.

From working with tech support for my mother's internet service, they said if you connect 2 lengths of cable together it will weaken the signal. So no, if you want a good strong internet connection you will need to buy a new cable the entire length you need.

Yes, what you need is a straighthrough connector. This is a small box that has two ethernet connectors on either side. You plug one cable into one end and the other cable into the other and there you go. You can also get a crossover type connector. The down side to using these are because the cables are using twisted pairs that depending on the length of the cables and the quality of the cables and the box you can get a poor signal resulting in dropped packets and a slower connection between the two devices.

the easiest way would be to get a coupler like at radioshack or something. But if you really wanted, you could lope off the end and splice them back together yourself. You have to do a good job though if you go that route.

You'll want a "RJ-45 coupler" available from stores like Radio Shack.
