Is it an Acer?
Did you check to see if the place of business will take it back and let you up-grade?

No, you need to purchase MS Office for Students (around $149), if you want MS-Word (the student edition is the same, but you agree not to use it for commercial use; you also can use the license key on three different computers as well).
If you just need a word processor, however, I understand that IBM is allowing a free website download of their new Office Suite (that they want to compete with Microsoft).
You can download a free MS Office viewer from Microsoft's website if all you need to be able to do is view documents created by others in MS-Word too.

You can download it off the site but only the 2007 trial version, which is a struggle to get used to. If you go on microsoft own website then you should find it on there, i don't know the exact link as my mum did it for me.
You only other alternative is too buy the cd from anygood computer shop for about £80

Only illegal websites will have Office or anything for free, you have to pay for it.
You can get Open Office for nothing though.

Look for Open Office. Basically it works just the same as office and looks similar but you can download it for free and their word processor is compatible with word, spreadsheets compatible with excel etc...
