In the "fine print" of the credits you'll notice a disclaimer that the producers reserve the right to modify the results of the phone polling. The web site http://votefortheworst.com/ had a huge campaign to attempt to have Sanjaya win but it was overruled by the producers.

The fix is in. The winner is predetermined from the start.

How would it be a hoax?

Yes...the voting is always fishy to me...they let the good singers go and let people like Sanjaya stick around so people in the media will have something to talk about...I think it's a joke...

Yes and no.

Yes because of many reasons. The producers admitted to counting half the votes on some occasions. They've also allegedly sent the wrong people home. Contestants have complained that they've been forced to change their songs by the producers. Also, they told one contestant not to come out of the closet because if he did, he'd be voted out. There's also rumblings of judges favoring some contestants over others and producers bullying and belittling the contestants.

No because ultimately, the winner gets their careers launched. Some aren't as successful as others, but this is one part of the competition that almost never gets rigged.

Despite all of that, it's a fun show to watch - if only because of the freaks that audition and the craziness that comes out of Paula's mouth.

Thank You! It is nice to see that not everyone is fooled so easily. It could easily be compared to pro wrestling. All the matches are fixed, and they know who the winner is before they even start. I'll never watch another show.

It's entertainment, not real life. It doesn't matter really if it is fake or not, does it? Only if you are planning to audition, I suppose.

What makes you say that it is a hoax anyway? Most of the people that have come out of American Idol have been very talented. Now sometimes singers stay on to long! But that is only because alot of the fan voting is not always for the most vocally talented. Some people vote because they think they are pretty, or the guy is considered cute! But more times then not, thye winner in the end is the best vocally!
