Is there a reason weed is illegal, and alcohol is legal? Doesn't make much sense, does it?

R U Kidding; The people that put published those resluts admitted that crazy people were more likley to try weed because they are looking for mental relief. Weed doesn't make you crazy. Being crazy makes you want weed. Besides, think of all the health effects alcohol has. it's a long list.

The main reasons that it is illegal are that it cannot be monopolized. It is far too easy for average people to grow for themselves and avoid paying for it. Marijuana is a low maintenance plant to grow, unlike tobacco, which must be babied. Alcohol takes time to ferment and a lot of it must be made at once for it to be profitable. Also, fermenting barley, grapes, sugar, etc. smell awful and would be easy to find.

NO. The hypocrisy of alcohol and tobacco's unprohibition and marijuana's anti-legalization is a disgrace to the united states. Either they should all be legal or illegal.

Sure, marijuana can cause this or that, has it's fair share of lung cancer. Well, look at alcohol and tobacco.

And addiction rates? None. For marijuana. If we prohibited the legal drugs out there, then there will be all these addicts without goodies, and the withdrawal will suck ***.

So what to do? Keep fighting for marijuana legalization and decriminalization. Until then, tons of organized crime, shwag, and rip-offs from dealers. Then those who medically need it will keep suffering...that seems to be America's intent these days...

They are LEGALLY testing some medical forms of marijuana, like a spray called Sativex that goes under the tongue....causes ulcers, though. Then a few states allow prescription marijuana I think. We're progressing....keep fighting.

Doesn't alcohol lead to liver failure and all kinds of other physical problems? Doesn't smoking cause lung, throat and mouth cancer? So then why isn't weed legal?

I completely agree

well for me it's legal.
i live in colorado and if you're over 21 it's legal to have an ounce of weed on your person in denver and boulder.
plus in boulder, police don't care if you're not 21.
there's too many CU students lighting pipes on the way to class to give everyone a ticket.

This question is repeated probably more than any other, except girls asking pregnant questions.
The real answer, just like that of alcohol, once the US government is satisfied that it can control it;s growth, distribution and tax it all, then it will probably become legal. The key words are "tax" and "control".

Yes it does, in 1935-6 there were some state laws against MJ. The Alcohol lobby, fresh from the end of prohibition pushed for the federal laws we have today.

I agree. I think that if alcohol and cigarettes are legal, pot should be. The only thing I can think of is that it would be hard to measure how high someone is. If someone gets a DUI, its cause they failed a breathalizer... but as far as pot goes, I don't think that there's a way to really measure it to ensure that no one is a hazard on the road. That's the only thing I can think of. Hopefully, in time, pot will be legal.

ALSO: if pot was legal, it could be regulated and safer. So that's cool.

Yes.

1) A recent study showed that regular users of pot have something like a 40% greater chance of suffering mental diseases, such a schizophrenia, than those who do not.

2) Another recent study showed that regular users of pot have a much greater chance (don't remember the numbers) of developing some sort of dementia, including Alzheimer's, later in life.

3) It's a "threshold" drug, meaning that those who go on to much worse drugs like coke, heroin, or meth, started with pot.

That's more than enough for me.

No sense at all. Alcohol is socially acceptable. It also kills people. You can't say that about marijuana. And , no, it isn't a gateway drug. I'm heading that one off before it begins. That's a ridiculous theory.
