Stray animals can be very shy, especially if they have been abused, so I think they are more likely to be attracted to gentle people who tend to be quiet and seem unthreatening.

I know they sure show up at our house. Must be that invisible neon sign that says "Sucker lives here, free food!"

I think so.... every dog that gets loose in the neighborhood, sooner or later, ends up in my yard! I have been told it is because I am out in the garden a lot, and I am a dog person, too.

Yeah, I always seem to come across sick animals (mostly wild). I've rescued a few things over the years

I think that there are several things that may contribute to this thought. If people know you are an animal lover they may "drop" a lost animal near your house. This happens to my parents all the time, but everyone knows they will take it in. Also many stray animals will follow other animals or simply their scent for food and will end up near an animal lovers home. Plus I sort of believe that animals know when you are a sucker for them, I've never met a cat that didn't take to me, even the "mean" ones.
