Im soooo excited!!! And I really like the fact that he is coming to the Padres cause thats his hometown, and he had a lot of deals that were bigger than 1 million, but he decided to take the Padres deal and look forward to becoming a Padre!!! I love players like this, they dont do it for the money, but they do it for the team... I respect those type of players!

This was a pretty good move by the Padres. They're only out 1 million if he doesn't produce. Putting in incentive money into his contract is a no-brainer. If Prior regains his ability, there's no doubt that the Padres, and its fans, will have a great 2008.

BTW: I'm a Cubs fan so Prior will probably win 20 games in a different uniform!!

for the money we are paying, its worth the risk. Prior needs a good pitching coach and a team that won't try to get 8 innings every start. He's a San Diegan and if things work out, he could be here for the long haul. Smart move Pads.

He's been injured A WHOLE BUNCH in his career... I liked him and hope he does well and plays healthy. That being said, I hope the Padres have an insurance/backup plan.

It was a waste of 1 million bucks and he will be on the DL by the end of May.

Unless someone teaches him how to correct his pitching mechanics he will continue to have the same problems. I think is a waste of time and money.

How long can the guy be considered a player with great potential? Potential never won a championship.

I hope it works out for him but history tells us a different story.

I think in this crazy world of extremely overpaid baseball players you may have got the steal of the offseason!!! I'm jealous!! hahaha.. but then again.. he may get injured in pre-season and not play all year long.. not much of a lose in the scheme of things if that happens though!! its a good deal!

As much as I (a dodger fan) would hate to admit it. It's a pretty good risk free pickup. If he's hurt . . . it only cost them 1 Million. If he's Mark Prior, you've got a solid pitcher to pitch behind Peavy and Young. and then Maddux.

Kudos to the Padres!

Go Dodgers!!!!

I think it's a very good move for the Padres.

Pros:
> $1 million dollar contract so it won't break the bank
> If it doesn't work out we have plenty of in house candidates for the job (Hensley, Germano, Estes)
> He's young and very talented especially if he goes back to his all star form
> PETCO Park will definetly help out his pitching

Cons:
> He'll miss part of the season
> If he performs well we will have to resign him and he will definetly draw more interest from the bigger market teams if he plays well.
