youll see matchmaking and click start mathmaking and it will find people

You need to look for public matches in the Theater - if you have friends in your friend list you can host or join private matches or even invite them to your party then find a public match for you all to join.

when you start up halo 3, their should be a way in the menu to start a quick match or suntin like that. then you should go directly to a match.

XBOX LIVE has been having problems this holiday season. If you had set up everything correctly and were still not able to play, it might have been due to the service's problems.
