Doesn't matter where you go, it's always a good idea to spend at least the first semester on campus, if not the full year. Once you get some close friends, then try the off campus thing.

Well it all depends on your situation. Some people say price but when you think about it they cost the same one just asks for money monthly and one each semester. Just look at your situation and the answer will be clear. Do you have a car? if you live on campus is there pleanty of parking at the dorms or will you be walking to and from your space? If you want to live off campus are there apartment bldgs that have good parking? You know what you get in the dorms but what about the apartments? is internet included? Cable? How do the apartments look? is it furnished? nice kitchen? I think instead of asking others do research see what kinds of apartments are around and what they include, and research the dorms. After the research sit down and compare the answers with your situation. The answer will show itself.

That's funny -- I know the difference between the words "whether" and "weather," yet I didn't get to attend Yale. Did your Daddy make a large cash donation to the university, or have their admission standards plummeted that much in the last few years?

If you're a freshman, you should live on campus. It'll be an easy way of making friends. A lot of colleges require freshmen to live on campus.

DEFINITELY on campus. I am also going to Yale (if I get in). I don't know if you visited or not, but the dorms / resident halls are amazing, while the surrounding town is ... not so amazing. Go to the Yale website to see a tour of their residential areas if you want to see more about them.
And, I'm not sure, but aren't you required to live on campus, at least freshman year?

Living on campus has many advantages, such as no transportation necessary, cafeteria close by - no need to buy groceries, laundry facilities accessable, etc.

New Haven isn't exactly the garden spot of Connecticut. I'd live on campus.
The weather?
