There are many views on this one:
(1) If you are a Realist you would probably say that the mind is the brain, so you would conclude that the mind is material, since the brain is material.
(2) If you are an Idealist, you would probably say that the mind isn't the brain, and it exists elsewhere, then you would say it's immaterial.
Personally, I like going with (1) because it makes a lot more sense, scientifically.

When you read a novel, you start to imagine as it is described in the book. Many characters start to exist one by one and live till you finish reading the book. The characters which lived in your imagination are material. You wanted them; they have acted. They disappear as their work finished. Like physique the spirit or spirits in it are material. Mind is also a material. Till you mind you have mind. This occurs from the day you born till your death. After death is this mind continue to live? That I do not know. But a hindu myth says that a baby in the womb gets it's previous birth memory at 8th or 9th month and forgets everything as soon as came out. There are many things. Just search.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.
This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.
At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.
We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.
These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.
From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.
I hope that helps to answered your question.
Love and blessings Don

The mind is immaterial. The universe is a hologram. The mind is quantumly connected to all everywhere everywhen. Time, space, and matter are illusions.

Your brain is physical, the mind is an abstract concept to describe your thoughts and emotions, or the stuff the stuff that goes on in your brain that we can't really explain fully with science.
P.S. - Be careful with the word 'immaterial', it has two meanings. One is the opposite of 'material' but its mostly used to mean 'not important' which is something alltogether different. Thoughts are intangible and hard to describe but they are certainly not unimportant.

My personal opinion mind you...your mind is an electrical (Spiritual) entity, that has power you could not dream of...it can actually manipulate the material world without breaking a sweat...yet it needs the material world to express its self. It's both master and servant...as we all are.
