Does anyone know the real story on this guy? Everyone said it was a 'steal' for the Pens get him 20th in draft, because he was highly rated 6 months or so before the draft, but now I'm not so sure.

Thoughts?

He has been cut from the Canadian WJC team at least twice (if not thrice). Makes you wonder if he has the stuff to make it in the NHL.

Also, he is regarded as a 'soft' player. Nothing wrong with that, but the last thing the Pens need is another softie.

I know he's still young, but I'm thinking the Pens maybe should have drafted someone else in the first round.

Angelo is a great player, but not the type of player that can carry a team. He's the type of guy who will excel at the NHL level if he plays with a great playmaker like a Crosby, Thornton, or Lecavalier. At the same time, he could end up like an Alexandre Daigle if he doesn't.

Part of Angelo's problem is he is not a true leader. He needs somebody with a 'stronger' backbone to p[lay behind. Physically he has all the skills (ala Alexandre Daigle and Sergei Samsonov). Mentally he has a lot of work ahead of him.

To succeed at the NHL level he will need
- move to a full-time wing position
- put on 10-15lbs
- develop a better work ethic

I was disappointed the Bruins didnt get Esposito, although I am very pleases with the kid they did decide to draft. Esposito is a good young talent, he should be successful for the Pens. Yes, he needs to bulk up a little and get stronger in order to thrive in the NHL, but he will be fine. Most rookies need to do the same things to be successful and go on to become good NHL players, and he has the skills that some of the other rookies dont have. He has the potential to be something big if he gets the right people around him.

Yeah he got cut from the WJC team, but hey, Crosby didnt go with team Canada to the olympics, doesnt mean he isnt good, I dont think he will be left out again!!!

Angelo's high side might be a less physical Mark Recchi, his lowside as the first guy said would be as a Daigle, if he sticks.

The fans in Montreal love this guy, but I am not sold on him.
A couple of years in the AHL will do him wonders.
