Since when is marriage just a piece of paper and a ring? It seems to have "lost it's value" in today's society. Are we that morally bankrupt?

Morality has a lot to do with it. Our sense of morality goes right along with our own value system and personal ethics. If you have a child out of marriage and don't want to get married you are judging marriage to be morally unnecessary.
Pussycat, you summed it up. Just because I value it doesn't mean the next person has too. To me that is sad though. I am not a fundamentalist, I just hope our society keeps making the change towards more conservative family values.

Sure is. And alot of thanks to whats happening in our society can be contributed to TV and all the hours many people spend watching it instead of doing marital/family things. TV just about covers every everyday cahlleges most families face and usually shows the easy way out. Soap operas are the worst thing to any family

on a similar time as I agree inclusive of your statements on the exterior, i don't have faith it somewhat is often so black and white. I married believing it replaced into consistently, and had no objective of ever divorcing. I even have faith I married till now I could have. i replaced into 26 and he replaced into 29, yet neither human beings had totally 'chanced on' ourselves and settled into who we'd ultimately exchange into. as quickly as we ultimately did, we found out we've been completely distinctive human beings. Sounds trouble-free sufficient to paintings with, yet as we more advantageous some enormously severe resentment outfitted alongside the way. ultimately, i replaced into residing in a depressing domicile wherein my each and every pass replaced into puzzled. I lived under a digital microscope. Being someone of character and understanding that i might by no potential dishonor the vow that I made to my husband, i could not understand or tolerate not being trusted. Then there have been the financial subject concerns and our changes with regard to the coping with of money. many human beings only don't understand the resentment which could come from being pushed out of commercial and dropping each and everything. All that stated, we spent 2 years in marriage counseling attempting to make it paintings for our daughters. It replaced into only irreparable by potential of that factor and we ended up divorcing. Do I value marriage? actual. Do i've got faith human beings enter into it too gently many cases? specific, finding back i will see that I in all probability did myself. Does that mean that i've got carried out some thing horribly incorrect and destroyed the business enterprise of marriage? actual not. I discovered a very effective lesson... the complicated way. i'm only approximately eleven years divorced now. I even have actual little doubt in besides that once/if I marry lower back it's going to be to the the best decision person, for the the best decision motives... and consistently.

Yeah, marriage is basically a joke today. Commitment, trust, and honesty are all virtues that have long since faded into the past.

What does that have to do with morals? Marriage was devised by the Church long ago to track paternity of children...it wasn't designed to be the fairy tale idea people made of it later on.
People can love each other with depth and passion, married or not. It's not immoral to choose not to marry or to choose to end a marriage.
There are legal issues people might consider when marrying as far as insurance, taxes, inheritance, power of attorney, etc... those are practical reasons. For people whom those things aren't an issue, marriage may well be just a piece of paper. It doesn't cause them to love one another more (or less) to have that paper, so some figure why take that step.
To each, their own. ☺
