Cat Stevens hands down and I'm completely unbiased. Chapin had like one or two great songs (Taxi and Cats In The Cradle) but Cat Stevens had dozens (Moonshadow, Wild World, Morning Has Broken, Father and Son, Peace Train, The First Cut Is The Deepest, etc..) let alone the fact that Cat Stevens' voice and lyrics were way way more superior, also, Cat Stevens had albums which are considered masterpieces and some of the defining albums of the 70's (Tea For The Tillerman, Teaser and The Firecat, etc..) but what albums does Chapin have??his albums are mediocre at best. And oh, he sold more records than Chapin would ever dream of selling (+60 million records)
P.S. the guy who said that Cat Stevens is a radical Muslim is obviously a moron, Cat Stevens devoted himself for the humanitarian works since he left the music scene, he's well-known globally as one of the biggest philanthropists and he has won dozens of peace awards.

Harry Chapin.
He was not only a brilliant storyteller, he worked to end world hunger.
"Cat Stevens", changed his name again, this time to "Yusuf Islam" is now a radical muslim who would like to see the distruction of the western world.
