Was he lying?
Before saying that Romney "envisioned" that, or that it was meant to be symbolic or figurative... please watch the short youtube clip. Then share your view.

Charbatch, Romney, himself, eventually admitted that it didn't happen.

Romney's statement is false although only he knows if it was a deliberate falsehood. The Broder book mentioned in another post does claim George Romney marched with King in Gross Pointe but the book is wrong. The Gross Pointe Historical Society website has a feature saying King gave a speech there but nothing stating that he marched there. George Romney did however strongly support civil rights. He would have made a better President than Tricky Dick Nixon. Unfortunately Mitt is more like Tricky Dick.

"He has marched with Martin Luther King through the exclusive Grosse Pointe suburb of Detroit and he is on record in support of full-coverage Federal open-housing legislation." (Stephen Hess And David Broder
Shirley Basore, 72, says she was sitting in the hairdresser’s chair in wealthy Grosse Pointe, Mich., back in 1963 when a rumpus started and she discovered that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and her governor, George Romney, were marching for civil rights — right past the window.
With the cape still around her neck, Basore went outside and joined the parade.
“They were hand in hand,” recalled Basore, a former high-school English teacher. “They led the march. We all swung our hands, and they held their hands up above everybody else’s.”

In his mind.
Don't hold that against him -- Republicans don't like the "reality-based community".

It was a lie.
Everyone knows that he would have been ex-communicated from the LDS at that point in History.
Romney has "flip-flopped" on this statement twice before these supposed books surfaced which highlight that the governor was there.
The books are simply made up.
Mormons and blacks both know that it was not possible... the church was on the forefront of the movement against Blacks - for religious reasons.

I think Romney's family did a lot of things in his dreams.
Does that make it a lie? only in reality.
But if he sleeps at the wheel like Bush did, his whole Presidency, it wouldn't be a lie in his dreamworld.
well as charbatch pointed out, since one guy was willing to take some cash to recall it, it must be true!
