Yes they can...but more likely by a demon...Satan is probably too busy to do it himself.

In the Old Testament, evil spirits were actually sent by God (2 chronicles 18 v 21; I Samuel 16 v 14), but by the time of the New Testament, odd behaviour was put down to the Devil. There are few genuine cases of 'spiritual posession', at least in recent times, largely because of the growth of the science of psychology, and it's pretty questionable if the so called daemon possessed in the past were that way because they had made a pact with satan Himself. It's more likely they were sufering from some sort of psychological illness
And let's not forget Joan D'Arc, who heard voices, and was considered a saint by the french (because she helped them win battles against the English), and a witch by the English (Because she helped the French win battles against the English)
Demon possession is largely a matter of perspective- in Shamanistic religions, to be possessed by the spirit of an ancestor or spirit gide was a mark of honour- to Born Again christians, such activity is sinfull and the result of cavorting with the Evil One.
So no, you can't be posessed by your own devil, but you can probably be accused of being posessed by somebody else's
