I think 3 cylinder turbodiesels will take the stage in a range of "commutibles" - small, lightweight vehicles used for work.
"domestibles" will be larger, more seats, and ideal for shopping.
Recyclable plastic panels will never rust, most components will be generic throught manufacturers - so less spares will become obsolete.
Keys will dissapear, security will be via RFID implant under your skin and voice command.
Road tax will be from camera network, and linked to car parks - you can come and go without barriers or paying - it will be calculated on your "road bill"

one word DIESEL. it will be the major option or standard engine for probably every vehicle made. but there will also be hybrids and gas still. maybe even hydrogen. although the process of making hydrogen is just as polutive as driving gas cars now. so unless technology fixes it hydrogen is just waiting on the shelf.
