Try 5 oz and see how much he drinks, and how long he sleeps. You might ask your pediatrician about mixing a little cereal into his formula.

Hey I'm mum to 2 year old and a 10 week old girls. Was baby prem or small born? My youngest was a week early at 7lb 1oz. She started on 2oz she's now on 7oz, she takes that every 2-3 hours during the day and sleeps from 10 to 12 hours at night. If baby's draining every bottle then I would suggest putting him upto 5oz if he doesn't want the extra oz then u've lost nothing. He will start taking more during the day so he can sleep longer at night. Last thing at night b4 my youngest goes to bed she has what I call a topup and cries for an extra couple of ozs about and hour or 2 after her last bottle. it won't be a phase as he'll build up the amount he takes as his stomach gets bigger. I hope that helps. U can email me if u want to talk anymore.

try giving him more, it is better to stick to every 4 hours which he has been rather than every 3. my son was the same he was taking 5 oz every 3 hours at that age. he always feed every 3 hours.when i spoke to the midwive she told me to feed on demand and i told her were to get off as i would have been doing nothing else but feeding him 24 7. your son will let u no how much he wants, he may only want that extra half an oz abd leave the rest. all babies are different, hes just hungry and growing.

i had to go to the next stage of milk when my son was 11 weeks as nothing would saticfie him.and he still eats for britan at 18 months except now it costs more. oh the joys of parent hood.

good luck.xx

feeding is best on demand. he will fluctuate. during growth spurts, he may suddenly take more or drink more often, and then he may go back to his old amounts. or not. every baby is different. my baby drinks 4 oz every 2 hours (very frequent) and she is 7 months old! at 9 weeks, she was still breastfeeding, so i'm not sure. i would say she took 2 oz every 2 - 3 hours. whatever he wants is how much he should have. especially at that young age, feeding should be on demand.
congratulations and good luck.
ETA: don't give him cereal without talking to your pediatrician!!!!!

Feed him as much and as often as he wants, their eating habits change constantly so just give him what he needs and wants.

By the time my son was three weeks old, i was giving him a quarter teaspoon of cereal twice a day. The child is hungry, feed him/her.

Give him the 4oz when he demands it because that is when he is hungry. Good New year to you!!

Maybe you should call a doctor up and ask him if it's healthy to give him more than he needs.

I think it is just a phase. He will get through it.
