I need to find a GOOD website that is FREE that will teach me how to knit. I want to knit my b aby some clothes on my own!

I have never knitted in my life,so I'd also like a list of supplies I should have for basic baby clothes knitting.... thanks a bunch!

I learned to knit from library books. I got quite good at it too. http://www.knittinghelp.com/

There wasn't internet or videos available when I learned, so you should have no problem. Just a few hints though. Don't knit when you are tired and learn how to fix a dropped stitch with a crochet hook. It is a lot easier than ripping it out like I did. Start small on a dish cloth until you get the hang of it then move on to something larger like a scarf. Good luck!

Books and youtube can be good, but nothing beats having your grandma (or someone else's) teach you. There may be a knitters group in your town if you dont' have a grandma nearby. It's probably full of old women, but they can be good company and will goo and gaa over your pregnant belly. :)
You need pattern books, which will be easy to find. Then follow the directions as far as supplies go. Nothing fluffy, of course. My grandmother knits baby clothes and her favourite brand is Patons. Their baby wool is of a very nice quality. I've heard their patterns aren't easy to follow for a beginner, but I haven't tried myself as yet. Find some friendly grandmas to help you through that.

The Vogue Knitting book. You can probably find it at the library. Lots of detailed drawings and photos to do step by step.

For the basics, you may want to go to any of the big yarn maker sites. Go to a search engine and type in learn to knit. Many of them explain the basics for free.

You can also go to www.wikihow.com and type in knit. You will find step by step instructions on how to do basic stitches...I did not see the casting on...which is how you get your stitches on the needle, but I also didn't look very hard.

Like the other answer...check your library for books. I learned in college while on break. There was a great book at Wal-mart by Leisure Art that had super instructions for left and right handed people. I later bought the companion to this that taught crocheting. Now I am good (not professional...but decent) at both.

I will also say this...I prefer crocheting because it is easier and faster. I make a lot of things for babies and sell them now. ;-)

Take care & good luck with the baby and your quest!!!
