I agree with you. Musharaf belongs to the Pakistani Army which has many Islamic extremists who oppose US. Whereas Benazir Bhutto had nothing to do with Army. She was a common person. She wanted a democracy which the people in Pakistan are crying about. Musharaf is making and passing law at his own will. No person in this country can stop him. He is a dictator. Benazir Bhutto would have swept the elections and would have become the Prime Minister.

We are stuck. Bhutto was a socialist liberal threat to President Musharaff so the ISI had to assassinate her.

Bush was not invested in Musharraf--he pushed for Musharraf to allow Bhutto to return and run for President--or prime minister.
(I FORGET WHICH)

He needs a strong ally in Pakistan--to help defeat the Taliban and Alqueda. Musharraf was there on 9/11 and he has been a descent ally. Not great, but Musharraf has his own problems--JUST LIKE PAKISTAN and the rest of the world.

Whether the US supports Musharraf now takes a back seat to the dangerous position the chaos created in Pakistan with Bhutto's murder offers the Taliban.

Oh so this is Bush's fault? we have been supporting Pakistan since the days of the Soviet Union? Who knows what the future would have held in Pakistan, I do know that the Military is stronger than the civilian government, that is why they have taken over so many times

Musharraf kept the extremist at bay and allowed the US to function in Pakistan. Bhutto might have been more inclined to try and go after extremist but that does not mean her military or police agencies would have - they have a lot of support for the extremist among them and Musharraf knows that and plays the fence to keep the peace.

Bush hasn't invested in anyone except the security of the United States. Our relationship is Pakistan is a strategic one and working with their head of state who ever it is is important.
