I think we are ready for the most part. Personally I think a conservative minority would stand a much better chance since they would appeal to a larger portion of the country. Good question!

Yes. Some people have a hard time accepting any kind of change, but I think it is shameful that a country that refers to itself as a melting pot has only produced one kind of president. Any qualified candidate deserves consideration, and gender or race should have nothing to do with qualifications.

Sadly no we are not. The current class of candidates have turned off most of the voters no mater which side you are on. It is the way each one has turned others off about their electability which hurts them.

I doubt it. Look at the idiotic answers some people gave you.
The thinly disguised racism directed against Senator Obama makes me think we are still a long way from electing a minority President, no matter how well qualified.
The absolute hate shown for Hillary may indicate the same thing for a woman, but it is difficult to tell since so many people hated her when she was "Co-president" with Bill.
I seldom vote "for" a candidate, rather a lesser of evils decision. But of people I would have liked to see as president, one was a woman (Anne Richards) and one was a woman and black as well (Barbara Jorden).
Jimmy Carter seemed to have the good of the country at heart, but the last good president was doubtless Truman. There has not been a good Republican president since Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower was fair, but his gutting of the civil service almost brought the country to a complete breakdown.
