Both & YES --- GO FOR IT!!!
Of all the PC games in the world, this one game has the most actively addicted players on the planet.
Also it is the ULTIMATE time Waster, once you're hooked time flies so fast, before you know it you're either dead from playing it constantly ** there have been occurances in the media all over the globe (though most often mentioned in Asian Countries) of people playing for hours & hours day & night. Though it might be a good scam for dieting - hint hint,.... Since you'll probably forgo eating in favor of playing the game.
But if you don't die playing it for hours & hours, you will truely have no real life to speak for, you may possibly lose all your friends & alienate your closest relatives. You could be a hermit - a total shut-in-by-choice. You won't care abut fashion or trends. You will be so out of touch with the real world, that if you should burn-out on it, and "come out of the closet" to rejoin the real world. It is possible that everything will be so alien to you that you might chose to return to the safety of your game console & the private world of your own making.
Uhmm do you have a job? mebe, you'll be better off if you quit your job first & sell off all ;your belongings to pay for the bare minimum to live on. Stock up on what you need to just exist to play that game.
As for considering getting that game - I say go for it, if you're a mature responsible adult. You would do well to get a little alarm clock, and impose a ration of a couple hours of play.
Because you will have to work a job to pay for your rent, for food & heat (if you get it and its winter where you are right now).
But also, so that you won't have any regrets about missing out on one of the most fun games to ever hit the market in decades.
Because of its effect on the gaming sub-culture, this game has affected players on a GLOBAL Scale.
If you can resist becoming a serious basket case, and still enjoy the game, giving your self a set limit of how much time you can waste on playing it. You know, you won't reget missing the opportunity of playing it.
You can still have a life, even just playing it while working a job and fulfilling your other responsibilities, its possible that you could save you hard earned money, by playing it instead of going out to buy other useless junk. Maybe save up for your retirement, and when you're an elderly codger, with nothing else to do with your time, then play it for hours and hours and hours and hours &,..........
Its ironic, that this game is kinda like selling your soul to the devil. Its the choices you make that define your life.
Will you manage it (playing this game) or will it rule your world?
Because regrets, can also ruin your life as well. Its not often that you can participate in something thats got the whole world "by the balls" just like world war one & two.
So, give it a spin, and if you can manage to not get addicted to it, you can save it for later when you're retired with lots of time on your hands, and have a ball with it in your old age.
After you've had a full life; career, being prime minister or president, becoming a billionare, having a family - being a grand parent with gobs of little brats to spoil or corrupt with your phillosiphies of life, or left the world with some mark of your making (fame).
cheers babe!!!

It can be addictive. I've seen discs for 14 day trials for $2, so it doesn't cost much to try it. But in the end how long you keep playing depends on you.

I played the ten day trial, and I was blown away. After just a few hours of play I was addicted and making excuses to people to come home and play it. I stopped after about six days because I didn't want to advance my character anymore when I only had a few more days of play.
It's definitely worth a try for any rpg/mmorpg fan. Deep storyline, tons of quests, fantastic guild feature. Though expect heavy addiction and bloodshot eyes in the morning :)

It is both a waste of time and addictive. But I think you will probably still enjoy it. I've played a lot of mmorpgs and they all waste your time but if you are looking for a good online game you really can't go wrong with WOW.
Also go to mmosite.com or onrpg.com and check other online games. You will find many good games there that are free to play and pay to play. Right now I am playing Dream of Mirror online and flyff and they are pretty good experiences. Have fun.

I just quit this game after playing it since launch. It is the best game I have ever played, easily. But this game IS addicting. I seriously regret all the lost time I didnt have with my family and freinds because of this game. My recommendation: Do not buy it. This isnt a sarcastic post either.

It can be addictive, if the player is prone to that sort of thing. It's a fun, interesting game.

It is addictive and fun, but like most games you might get bored but it's worth the time for the fun parts. Rogue is the most fun to play if you like player vrs player or should I say if you like player killing.
