They can.
Sometimes they will realize what they have done,
And it could make them feel bad about it.
But, that's not very common.
When they are punished, they probably feel stress.

HARDLY! They are born without the abilty to empathize and any display of regret is only a ploy to get sympathy! Or to get out of the consequences of their own behavior!

You can't help them. The disorder can not be treated, unfortunately. And by definition, they do not feel guilt and stress about what they have mistreated.

For a true sociopath? No, not without medication. I was married to one for eight years. It took my divorcing her for her to get help. And, still, even though she's doing better, there's still no guilt, no flashbacks, no remorse for the hell she put me through...and the hell I allowed myself to be put through for way to long. Maybe it's possible, maybe not. Sorry.

No, you cannot help a sociopath. They are basically and interspecies predator. You have to get away from them as quickly as possible. They are cunning and great at feigning emotion to get what they want.

No Sociopaths feel no remorse for their actions, they may dislike the consequences - prison for example but no remorse for their actions or victims.
What can you do to help them - protect yourself from the lies, the manipulation, theft of property, etc. seek mental health for yourself in coping & setting boundaries
