Governor Huckabee gave a speech in 1998 to a Southern Baptist convention endorsing the Baptist convention's statement of beliefs on marriage that "a wife is to submit graciously to the servant leadership of her husband."

Do you think he will ever be able to work effectively with women in Congress and female leaders of other countries, given that he wants women to be subservient to their husbands? It seems to me that his views will restrict him from being objective with regards to women, their rights, and the need to help women of other countries.

This guy is a loser from the word "go." If the Republicans nominate him they'll be handing the election to the Democrats on a silver platter.

This country will not elect a Baptist preacher to the Oval Office. Too many Americans appreciate the concept of separation of church and state, including many Republicans. He claims he can separate them but his campaign ads and slogans say something different and we all know it.

Statements like the one you have above will kill him in the polls and guarantee his defeat. I'm sure there are many more where that one came from.

This guy is so clueless about foreign policy (consider the idiotic statement he made after Bhutto's assassination) that any Democratic candidate will make him look like a fool in the debates. This guy is toast before he ever gets started.

he must be pretty smart to keep his cover and play the good preacher for so many years. fact is, that just might make him the best choice. i feel sure there is more to him than what you see on tv. he seems to be a real cool hand. if i had not sworn to never again vote for another member of the GOP or any incumbant, i might consider him. but this lonesome cowboy wants some serious change. i just have a queazy feeling the fat cats have us in a heap of trouble.

I heard that too. His fundamentalist views are outdated and almost dark age material.
Scary stuff when you think about trying to make peace with the Islamic world and it doesn't sit well with his ability to conduct foreign policy with an unbiased approach.
Women have fought too long and too hard for the many rights we have and I can't see how conservative women could support this thinking that threatens to take us back so many years. He tries to separate his religion from his politics but not very effectively. You can hear the church coming through on all his stances on the issues. He will be worse than Bush.

It is shocking and appalling to me how men in this forum really feel about women when this question is asked. Can you hear the he-man chest-beaters and mouth breathers?

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord" (Eph. 5:22).

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it (Eph. 5:25)

Wives should submit to their husbands and husbands should love their wives as God loved the church, the husband should be willing to lay down their lives for their wife.

He is a Baptist preacher and that is what the bible says. it also says for husbands to respect and treat your wives very well. So, get your facts straight and paint the whole picture before mouthing off.

Support it. Women must understand that they must serve their men and his needs. The same is true for men. They must serve their wives. A marriage is a partnership and each party need what they need. To be a successful marriage, this must exist. The main reason why we have so many divorces is one or both spouse only cares about their needs and are not willing to work together.

This statement does not mean that women are inferior to men or vice versa. You completely take what he means out of context.

While this may be a reason to not support him, there are plenty of others.
