I love getting mail too and I am not even sure why as it is always bills, yech.
But still, I love the sound of the mail truck, I guess because the mailman gives me things that are just for me even if they drain our bank account.
But once a long time ago I was waiting for a refund check and then I was just sure that the mailman had it and was just taunting me. I even wrote a poem about it.
here it is:
Mailman (or) Maildemon Lettereater
By TAP
why,
do we wait,
for the mailman
each day?
Looking out the window-
to see him come up the walk.
But he seems to
insist on staying away!
If I had in my possession,
I'd shoot him with a glock.
They'd never get a confession.
He's a giant ****
An absolute toodle breeches-
The sight of his face makes me gag.
But I wait for the mail-and-
The waiting makes me speechless!
Then when he finally arrives-
I run to the front door?
All we get are useless ads, fliers, Ginsu Knives!
the waiting is dire...
I waited for nothing!
I have to wait some more.
Tomorrow.
Or the next day.
Waiting and waiting.
Where are you mailman??
Off somewhere having an afternoon romp
with some lonely housewife?
You disgust me.
You punk!
and I wait some more
how did you like it, could you feel my angst?

OK...they shouldn't have to because of the constitution or whatever, but here's what I think...
If they get in an accident on their "day off" (bastards) and need to go to the emergency room, they shouldn't be treated. Why should they benefit from people who have to work on holidays when they're lazy and just sit around the house cutting their fingers off with a chain saw or diving into an empty swimming pool?
Also, they shouldn't be allowed to eat at Denny's which is open on every holiday. In fact, no "B" members of society should be allowed to eat there.

Not only should they work holidays ... but what is all this crazy talk about 'taking Sundays off', too ....? ???
Last year, my birthday fell on a Sunday, and I never received one lousy card that day! And it is all their fault! I had to wait until Monday to open a package my Granny Matilda sent me, too ..... :(
I had to wait a whole day, before I could enjoy wearing her ginormous, hand-knit, lime and mahogany wool sweater, with the pom-poms on the front .... and to taste her homemade moth-ball flavored sugar cookies ....
..... :(
My entire day was ruined!

Hi Thousand! Happy New Year.
I have an idea...maybe you should drop by his house. Just tell him you wanted to let him know your sore throat is better. Ask if he has anything for a snack, or some coffee. Once you have made small talk and broken the ice....ask if he can take you by the post office so you can check you mail slot. If he refuses, I would just hang out until maybe he has a change of heart.
It is still considered the holidays, maybe he has some Christmas spirit left.

I understand needing a break, but maybe they could employ backup mailmen. Then we'd never have to wait for mail again! The backups could work Sundays too!!

Only you and I should have year-round mail service. The entire infrastructure should exist for our whim.
We could write each other and say "ha ha, the rest of humanity has to wait for their mail to get through..."
