Last night we took our 93 Isuzu Rodeo to the gas station and got gas. When we tried to start it, it just clicked and it wouldn't turn over. So someone cleaned off the cables and connectors and all that stuff, jumped us, and we headed home. The car seemed sluggish and all the gauges were jumping and the radio wouldn't work. There has been a belt squeaking for a week now (figured it was the serpentine). When we got home he turned the car off and then tried to start it again and it would just click. Do you think its the belt, bad battery, or could it be something worse like the alternator?

It could be a bit of both, like a dead battery which died because the alternator quit working. But just throwing parts at costs lots of money. Troubleshoot first and determine "exactly" what's bad and in need of replacement. Autozone, O'Reillys, Pep Boys and some other parts stores will check out your battery and alternator for free. Free is always good and it should help to determine the least expensive way to get you going again. Good luck.

Not the alternator.. 2 things...the belt was loose so its slipping
and not turning the Alt. Also, the cables were corroded
and not getting 100% contact with Bat. post. Listen close
now...fix these things and charge the battery with a trikle
charge 2amp charger..12 hrs. good luck.

it is running on battery only. the alt is not running the vehicle. It will only run on the batt so dont push it.and keep the batttery charged untill you fix it.

YOUR CAR WILL RUN ON JUST A BATTERY WITHOUT THE ALT CHARGING, BUT AT NIGHT WITH HEADLIGHTS ON AND RADIO AND EVERYTHING ELSE IT WOULDN'T LAST A LONG TIME PLUS HOW MUCH OF A CHARGE DID IT GET JUST OFF A JUMP? I WOULD TAKE BATTERY TO AUTO ZONE LET THEM CHARGE AND CHECK IT, I WOULD START WITH THE BATTERY. IT CAN PUT A LOAD ON THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING GUAGES TO JUMP AND LOW POWER

u need an alternator. u might look at the belts and make sure that all the pulleys on the same belt as the alternator are free spinning. if one of them are not free spinning it could cause the alternator to not work. good luck
