I'll go with the 1999/2000 side. It dealt with more "equal" opponents than today and it was a real blood & guts side for good measure.

Can't say if god was on any of the teams' side, but I did pray to god to help Australia win, when the Sri Lankan batsmen were blazing away & just two balls after that Sangakkara got out to Ponting! lol I've got one due for Sri Lanka too, when they play the 2011 WC final ;-)

i have to go with the 'oldies'..i grew up watching a;; these guys but the experience of the '99-00'-team is and was unbeatable...the only surprise in that team to me is Greg Blewett..Yes very good player, but was'nt a stand out for me in that time....
both of your teams are good, but cause i am an 'oldie' there my choice......(hey where's Damien martyn?)

I never liked Miller, McGill or Fleming, so I choose any team without them! Of course if I must, I say the second team.

Its much evident that latter list of players you have mentioned is far more better than the former ones. well if You look at the top order of Australian 90s,of course Michael slater was great opener for Australia at these times but again take a note of it Matthew Hayden is no lesser than the former. Hayden is enjoying agreat average of over 50. and Langer is better opener than bleweet,in fact Langer Hayden duo is one of the best openers that the game has ever seen.both of them were very consistent.only thing that favour the 90s team is the presence of Waugh brothers. but youo should also need to analyse the fact that the present team has also abunch of experienced talents such as Mr Cricketer Hussey, Clarke. Symonds. They are more Aggressive than the formers
and in the case of Ponting and Gilchrist , both of them were not so threatening batsmen in their earl phase of their carrers they began to express their supremacy only after the 2000s. so as for as i concerned 2005 team is better
