It's called "freedom." If the government can take away from the Internet that which you do not like, then they can take away that which you do like, as well.
I'm opposed to censorship, so long as no one is harmed in creating the product which some would censor. I am opposed to child porn, though, as the children are obviously being harmed.
The other point is, how could you ever stop it? The Internet is commonly known as the World Wide Web. This is because we have access to the same things the rest of the world does. How could we prevent people from accessing porn, if the porn is being hosted in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, or South America?
So if you don't like porn, don't look at it. But don't try to take away the rights of those who do want to look at it. Freedom, after all, is what it's all about. Right?

Not sure how everyone could be locked up for ONE person viewing pornography. There may be some rule on the books that if you are caught looking up porn that YOU could be sentenced, but I don't think that applies to the rest of your town.
I guess in a sense many people want to VIEW the Internet as being for educational purposes. But I don't think there was every any mandate that said YES IT IS ONLY TO BE USED FOR EDUCATION. Period.
Your town cannot stop what is being put on line. Just isn't possible.
Free speech is one thing that protects porn on the Internet. Like it or not free speech protects pretty much ALL types of speech, even those that many people disagree with.

Your town can't do that. This is the USA, we still believe in free speech. Your town is over stepping it's legal boundaries, and I for one hope you and your town get the spanking you will richly deserve if you try to do that.

Because pornography(with the exception of the grossly, obscene and chil porn) has been found protected free spech guaranteed by the first admendment by the Supreme Court. Therefore, any laws which ban porn would not pass constitutional muster. If you do not like porn, simply do not go to porn websites and you will not be exposed to it. If you don't want your kids downloading it, set up an internet filter. Same thing with TV shows, if you don't like whats on, change the channel.

I think it's discusting and vile as well. But unfortunately, there are many people making many millions of dollars off of internet porn sites. They have "rights" as well. I have no use for it, or the perverts that look at it either.

The internet is open for all types of expression. To date attempts to regulate its' content have failed. Don't know what town you live in but it sounds like a questionable reach of authority to ban internet content as long as all parties involved are of legal age. Do you live in the USA or China?
