There is no, one beer with lunch or one glass of wine with dinner, equivalent effect from marijuana.
The only common use of marijuana is, to consume the equivalent of the drinking a large amount of alcohol, which most people accept as the abuse rather than use of that drug.
Even so, it should not be the business of the government to stop adults from using marijuana or any other drug, or any other vice, for that matter, which harms only the user.
The current laws against vice should be replaced by laws which punish only the harming of others or pushing them on children.
The liberal idea that addicted persons are sick, rather than stupid, and deserving of expensive government assistance, hinders that kind of change in the law, as much as anything else.

I mostly agree with you but... For one thing, far more people use alcohol on a regular basis than use cannabis on a regular basis. If people actually started smoking as much as they drink, then I think we'd see some problems. Because I know several people who have experienced mental problems that may be blamed on it. I do not believe that cannabis causes mental health problems, but I do believe that it can make people who are already susceptible to mental health problems more likely to develop these problems to the point where they become damaging to a person's life. As I say, it is beside the point as to whether cannabis has been 'proven' to cause negative side-effects, I know from personnal experience, and from the experience of others, that it does do that. Also smoking ANYTHING is not good for the lungs. Plus, I think alcohol helps increase the birth rate. How many guys out there get extra horny when they've had a few drinks? Actually I do think it should be legalised, but it's dangers should not be concealed by a focus on the problems alcohol causes. Sure, let people have it, but they should be warned that smoking the stuff can could interfere with their normal life.

yes yes and yes! u are so right. how many ppl get really sick or die from alcohol poisoning or drunk drivers? sooo many! but i bet u never heard of anyone overdosing or weed. people who smoke rarely even get off the couch long enough to leave the house so what the harm in that? i feel u, they should switch it up and make alcohol illegal and marijuana availabe to the 21 and older crowd. wow, i could get so rich if i opened a "PotBar" lol!

I agree with the premise, but I recognize that it's possible to take the other side...
alcohol is worse: alcohol is physically addictive, it's the #1 gateway drug, alcohol intoxication is a leading factor in traffic fatalities and sexual assaults, it can destroy your liver, it can be fatal. Cannabis is not physically addictive, and it's impossible to fatally overdose by smoking pot.
MJ is worse - it's entirely possible to drink moderately and not get intoxicated, either in social situations or with meals, for instance. In moderation, wine and alcohol are have health benefits for the heart. People smoke MJ for the effects, specifically. People who smoke A LOT of MJ tend to show residual effects when not high (seem dopey), and being high a lot can lead to a loss of motivation (vegging out) instead of activity, depending on which kind of cannibis is smoked (indica vs. sativa). Also, if you smoke a lot, you get the muchies a lot, and that can harm your health.
Even if one can't agree on which is "worse" I think we can all agree that the level of crimes for MJ is way out or proporation to any "danger" it might pose.

very much agree, if you are going to drink, stay at home ,but know when to stop, as for as marijuana, I see nothing wrong with it , you can grow it at home in Alaska, just enough for your self, but as for as selling it , the government wants their share of the profits.

I do agree with this. Most people who are in prisons are in them because of drug offenses. Marijuana is pretty harmless people don't hurt others or get aggressive when they are high. Alcohol people can get aggressive and violent.

In college, I had a number of friends on both sides. Those who smoked marijuana did considerably worse in school and with jobs. I have a few friends 5 years after college still trying to get it together. All my drinking buddies are fine with decent jobs, even that one really lazy one. I can have a beer or two and not really be effected, and I don't need to to relax. Ask someone who smokes a few times a week and see how that goes. Then make them take a couple weeks away from the weed. end of discussion.
I do, however, agree that it should be legalized. Tax it. And allow companies to do random testing and fire without other cause than a positive, if the company wishes.

i totally agree. alcohol is way worse than marijuana. i don't understand why its illegal even though its just a plant!!! i mean people that lk to get high generally wanna just be friends with everyone and have peace btwn the world. where as people who are drunk lk you said try and start fights and stuff. its also way worse for you're body. you can get alcohol poisoning and die from drinking in one night. but you can't overdose on marijuana. i think they should legalize it and stuff. cuz alcohol is so so so much worse. but people don't understand. and i personally don't think it leads to other drug use either. thats only druggies. i totally agree with you!!!! its good to hear someone with good common sense.
