For me, in a good way: "Lovecats" by the Cure, and "The Ghost in You" by the Psychedelic Furs, in a bad way, "Hold Me Now" by the Thompson Twins...

GENESIS- Ripples, Afterglow, Blood on the rooftops, Many too many...
In general many Genesis songs remind me of many sweet sour sides of life.

YES- Tales from Topographic oceans... it is a spiritual trip, the first time I felt transcendental visions in music that was not classical. The last movement..."nous sommes du soleil " always make my cry.

CAT STEVENS- Morning has broken, Moonshadow

and you? What songs make you sad?

edit..

who and why did give me a thumbs down???
This is a personal question!!! why should anyone have a negative oppinion on what makes me sad or nostalgic??? Only I know what I feel and why. Kind of bloody stupid you are...get a life.

"A Touch Of Grey" by the Grateful Dead, one of their few radio hits. I'm not a Deadhead by any means, but I was struggling with risking a career move. I was in the car, I heard the song on the radio for the first time and the chorus helped me decide to take the chance. I'm far happier that I did so and everytime I hear the song I quietly thank them. And I was young at the time!

Your Ghost - Kristin Hersh

Anything off of the first October Project album (was there a 2nd?)

The Swanns version of Can't Find My Way Home

Cocteau Twins in general

Everybody Hurts - REM (1st gen emo chick?)

Some old Rosanne Cash & Nanci Griffith songs

Get That Feeling Inside - Gail Davies

La Chanson de Puelle Quinze Ans (or something like that) - it's a very sad pretty Cajun song

Vox & Hold On - Sarah McLachlan

Okay... I've exposed my ecclectic tastes enough for one day.

Oh - yeah - PinkFloy... said Morning Has Broken... they played that at the funeral for a girl who killed herself when I was in High School. I barely knew her, but you know how that stuff hits high school kids.

Oh - and when my grandpa died, I was driving to my parents house and that stupid Titanic song came on and I started to bawl & then I heard Cartman from SouthPark: the radio station had done a SouthPark remix... I was laughing SO hard & I was SO grateful to that radio station!!!

Snoopy & the Red Baron song always makes me cry.

I'll stop now. Really.

Where Do You Start the Shirley Horn version. I get so emotional when I hear it cause it takes me back to when I was about to get a divorce.

There are songs that make me weepy (Woods of Darnay by Richard Thompson) and there are songs that make me nostalgic (Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds) but I don't think there are any that make me both simultaneously.
