A friend of mine recently posted a question about the ugly things people say to and about him at school and at home, and it really gets to me that ignorant people still do this. One of the things I have noticed is that the size and strength of the gay person is directionally proportionate to the amount of trash a troll lets come from their lips.(Trolls in my opinion are male and female)Many gay people are passive and wouldnt harm anyone for any reason. And often times they are the most likely targets.Yes,it is chickens**t,but is that an area where some assertiveness would improve things?I have NEVER EVER in life had anyone speak either directly or indirectly about my sexual preference because I am masculine and I've knocked out more teeth than gingivitis. The fact that I take no crap from anyone has a direct bearing on things as GAY=RESPECT with me.Do heterosexuals assume being gay is a weakness where our less agressive friends are concerned?

I think a lot of it is an extension of good old-fashioned idiot sexism.

Discrimination against gay people is based on a stigma against gender variance. It's not socially unacceptable to love men - it's only unacceptable for a man to do so, because that's considered a "woman's place." If a man is perceived as having sex "like a woman" (ie, with a man), many people will regard him as "feminized," and by extension he ends up being subjected to the same steriotypes that have been conventionally applied to women.

If a guy is extremely conventionally masculine other than being gay, especially if they're large/strong/physically aggressive, it's going to mitigate the assumption that being gay makes them "feminine." It's also going to intimidate people out of making comments that might get them beaten up. Small or passive guys in general are going to get more ****, because people just aren't afraid of them enough to bother treating them with any respect.

This is pretty close to an excellent poem. Your 5th and 6th lines are the weak points. You change from verse to simply making a statement. Here's an example of what I mean: With my eyes closed I can see everything. I can see the moon and the stars, I can hear the beat of your heart, And I can feel the warmth of your breath, "I still help you to walk, you don't want it I still care for you, you don't like it." I taught you how to love, And I taught you how to die. Maybe you should close my eyes, So I can open mine.

Yes! because in a lot of hetero eyes we are feminests and not men but woman because of who we REALLY are. NOT MACHO.

Interesting question - but first what is Gay? Most gay people "pass" as straight. I know a lot of straight people who are assumed to be gay because they are not masculine enough. So the real issue is not about being gay - it is about being seen as not masculine enough.

Unfortunately society has determined that not being masculine enough means being gay - in fact most current research on homophobia indicates that masculine is not defined by what it is but by what it is not, and what it is not is "anything feminine". In some cultures gay means taking the female role in a relationship - a man taking the male role is not considered gay even though he has a sexual relationship with another man.

Some other research done a few years ago for a documentary discovered a high correlation between homophobia and latent homosexuality - ie those research subjects who displayed homophobic behaviour were the ones who also responded sexually to erotic gay porn.

So I think the answer to your question is not simple - Yes, gay is seen as weak - because it is seen as feminine and therefore not masculine. However as most homophobic men may also be closet gay men, perhaps the real reason for the negative reaction is fear of being exposed as gay.

Sometimes it has to do with the medias perpetuation of the male homosexual stereotype that gay men are weak and girly and walk around with a limp wrist, etc etc.Nothing is further from the truth. There are some guys out there that look like they could rip an automobile in half-I wouldn't want to cross a person built like that.

Yes, it does. There's somehow a sense that homosexuality indicates a social dysfunction, and an inability to deal with the opposite sex in a "traditional" way.

As a straight guy, I don't see gays as being weak or strong. I just see them as normal everyday people, some weak, some strong. Depends on the person.

There is a stereotype of the limp-wristed, lisping, hysterical gay guy which seems to be what a lot of straight people imagine when they hear the word GAY. It is no more true than thinking of all lesbians as flannel wearing, motorcycle riding, diesel dykes. Probably because the gay people who blend in aren't noticed by the general public

Well "a lot" (two words, darlin') is subjective.
But I'd have to agree.
Sadly it's partly out of some screwed up idea of machismo and partly out of fear.

I think people think that, but I have met some gays that I would NOT mess with, of both sexes.
