I heard on CNN the other day that the "U.S. was committed to free and fair elections in Afganistan."
In my view that is like saying the I am committed to making sure that my neighbor attends all of his children's school functions, or that he always treats his wife in a way that I feel is appropriate.
While I understand and agree fully that we should TRY to maintain amicable working relationships with other countries in our global neighborhood, I am furious with the way the U.S. ALWAYS has to butt in and try to influence EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE!
I am against terrorism, but NOT at the expense of the elimination of our constitutionaly recognized and garanteed rights!
I am for protecting and assisting our allies, but not at the cost of robbing our own citizens and avoiding the badly needed reversal of unconstitutional activities of the U.S. government.
I can understand the UN acting this way, it is an intrusive organization, not a sovereign entity.
What are your thoughts?

If the UN did it's job we wouldn't have to do it for them.

" the badly needed reversal of unconstitutional activities of the U.S. government",

Brother , please note the core fact , that , now USA is just serving Israel's interests ,

Only 10 years back , USA was an even more respected country among world citizens than today ,

USA never had any reason for war , But Israel became impatient to build "greater Israel".

Jews Dominate ,

US foreign policy ,

US Bible , and

US Media ,

So you'll have to do all that is required out of USA.

On the whole the British have no problem with Americans.
One on one they are mostly good people, arrogance aside.

However the anger in my country is certainly mounting against the US foreign policy of "If in doubt kill it !"

Then trying to convince the world that your doing it for the sake of humanity !? it makes me sick, and many of my countrymen feel the same way.

Support for the US is going down the toilet, it's a shame because you could be viewed very differently by the world.
America does have a lot to offer, apart from ordnance.

The US government believes that democracy is the one thing that will marginalize the radicals of the world.

Promoting free elections is an important part of that democratic process.

If we are as you said--"DAMNED IF WE DO, and DAMNED if we DON'T"--

then i side with promoting democracy!--

Rather than waiting for the next attack and the next and the next.

I do hate the war - only because we don't really have a defined reason to be there - it changes constantly ...first it was bin laden and weapons of mass destruction (whatever happened to that...) then operation iraqi freedom - now we're in lebanon - and we don't really have a clear-cut reason or a clear-cut resolution that we're fighting for - and how can we FORCE a country to be democratic when the very essence of being democratic is not dominating and ruling over people - it doesn't make any sense. not to mention the very title o this "war" is the War on Terrorism - which is completely illogical - you cannot defeat an idea - you can only defeat people - but the idea will live on and continue to come back (and who's it gonna come back against? the US - and now they have a real reson to hate us....) - and didn't the UN disapprove of us going to Iraq in the first place? (But I also hate it when we all treat bush like he's not a human being with a conscience - i don't think he want to murder people for no reason - i think he's just very confused and wishy washy - and stubborn to admit a mistake)

What is your alternative? Let a war (Russia) then brutal regime (taliban) torn country with little to no infrastructure fend for itself? That is what we did after the war with Russia and the taliban setup shop. We all know what a positive influence on the world that was and the number of human atrocities that created. The question you should be asking is why isn't the EU and International community walking the walk, if you preach freedom and human rights why not commit more resources and stamp out the taliban, teach people how to create and maintain a somewhat corruption free government, legal system, etc.... Start doing business with Afghanistan so they can be independent and self supporting, etc.... This is what America is trying to do. Wouldn't you look to someone to help you if you had to live under what Afghan's have for decades?

WE are not intrusive, we are very HELPFUL> thats what I am sick of. We need to help our own, and tell the other guys tough luck till we fix home first. We are so kind, so generous, and so not given the honors we deserve it is sickining, as dumb.
Iraq, Vietnam, and the budget offers to others, heck we have homeless and no insurance. We have drug issues from a hard core society that leaves many mental issues in many a good person.
We are the givers of the World, but we fail to give to ourselves. The leaders we have try to show the world that we care, and we go without. Then the ones they say we care to and give all our moneys to, say hey, America your this and that. Funny how everyone has a hand out, and a big trap.
Our enemys say we are corrupt, true, but that corruption has alot to do with a lack of internal resources simply because we have a budget so High from helping others like them. So quit needing us so much so we can attend to our own affairs better. Then we need no war.

I am reading a book - "Who's watching You - by John Gibb" - about all the surveilance since 9/11
- worth a read.
It sems that the US would like to have a finger in as many countries affairs as possible - as it would make securing resources easier in the future.
I have a strong conviction that the US aims to have a controlling stake in most eastern countries in the next 50 years due to dwindling oil reserves. If that means stepping in when a country is strangely destabilised - that will do. - or to overthrow a dictatorship etc. - Just make up your own reasons as they will probably do.
Learn to read the undercurrents.
