Ok, my friend and I were both looking through a girl's teen mag, and there was an article that told us all about the gyno visit for girlz, and how they examine you down "there." I'm worried about what happens and I already feel ashamed about it, cause it's embarrasing. My friend and I are both 12 right now, turning 13, and it says you should get a appointment when you are 13-15! It also says they ask you questions about you sexuality. Are you still a virgin even if you masturbate from time to time? I"M SCARED! someone, please help my friend and I!

You should start going to the gyno the year you get your period, and then every year after that.

Yes, it's kinda embarrassing and uncomfortable, but it's part of being a grown up (or being a teen who is in the process of growing up).

They ask you tons of very personal questions, but they won't tell your parents. And yes, you are still a virgin until a guy's penis is put into your vagina. Masturbating doesn't count, and you don't even have to tell the doc about that if you don't want to.

You can get a female gyno if it will make you more comfortable. She sees this stuff all the time and it's no big deal for her.

I remember my very first gyno visit when I was 13 (I'm 27 now) and I actually pretended that I was my friend from school who was very easygoing and comfortable with everything and never seemed scared or embarrassed. Of course, I answered all the docs questions with my own info, but my cavalier attitude was pretend. And that helped a lot!

I'm not sure why the magazine said between 13-15. Typically you get examined when you are sexually active or by the age 21. They will ask about your period and if you are sexaully active. You will want to answer the questions truthfully.

Really they don't advocate going unless you are having problems or you are sexually active. "Gyno" visits are stressful, especially your first one. But I can tell you from personal experience, as long as you are a virgin and not having problems they feel they need to look, a gynecologist visit doesn't necessarily involve removing any clothes or looking at anything. No masterbation doesn't take away your virginity. Talk to your mom and determine if you really need to go to one. If you aren't planning to have sex (which would be a good plan), then you probably are fine not going. A lot of magazines are assuming that everyone is having sex.

Yeah, I was really nervous my first time at the gyno's office too. But I think 13 is a little young for you to go (unless you're sexually active, and no, masturbation doesn't count). I didn't go to the gyn til I was 16 and I had rough periods so that's why I went (and, when I did, the doctor said since I was a virgin in all aspects, that there was no real reason, other than the cramps, for me to be there). If you need to talk to someone, try a trusted teacher or aunt/cousin/mother/sister and see what that person has to say about you going.

And the only reason they're asking about your sexual habits i because they want to know if you should watch out for anything. They are there to help and not judge. Granted, some do, but if that's the case, just remember, YOU are the patient and you have the right to fire your doctor and find someone else whom you'll be more comfortable with.

Good luck sweetie! Remember, as soon as you get it over with, it becomes SO much easier.

You should go before you become sexually active.

They do ask you questions like if you've had sex, they don't ask if you masturbate.

Ask the doctors ANYTHING about menstruation/etc. as they are there for you.

You don't need to go till you're 18 or sexually active or have problems, whichever comes first.

Honestly, it's not that bad to go, you'll wonder what you were so scared of when it's over. Your vagina is just a body part and they are just doctors, its no different than going to the dentist and having them look in your mouth.

You could masturbate with the biggest cucumber in the world and you would still be a virgin until you have sex with a guy.

You don't have to go between those ages. You can go whenever you become sexually active. And yes you are still a virgin if you masturbate!
