I'm thinking my plant, because ever since I placed it in the bathroom there has been tiny, little bugs flying around now!

What should I do? How do i rid them?

Should i put my plant in the shower and let it drain?

sounds like fungus gnats, usually in a plant that is being watered too much or that has to be kept wet...you should be able to find mild insecticides that you add to the water so you are killing the larvae as you water the plant....there is a variety of Bt that will effect the larvae and is non toxic to other animals...you could re pot the plant in un contaminated soil and then place a layer of sand on top of the soil

they are living in the dirt itself loving wet conditions

Those are probably fungus gnats. They are very common on nursery plants. They lay their eggs in the potting soil so you will need to treat over a period of time to break the cycle of egg to larvae to adult.

Several treatments of BT, you can get this at most garden supply stores, is a safe and sure way to getting rid of the little pests.

Yes.. I have had them too.. thats why I hate buying new plants from places.. What I do since i've tried it all.. the dish soap and the vinegar does not really work.. is buy a can of house and garden raid and spray the plant and the dirt especially, before I bring it in or else put it in a room away from all other plants and spray it good.. if you don't, pretty soon all of your house plants will have them.. works great.. and gets rid of them for good..

mix a drop or two of dish detergent with a cup of water and spray all the leaves of the plant, top and bottom. you should have done this when you brought it inside, or repotted it.

My boyfriend's family is having the same problem because his mother insists on having a "greenhouse" on the proch, and they used their potting soil that they had already used outside for the summer to pot their plants.

Once they bought topsoil from the store and repotted them, the gnat problem diminished significantly, but there are still a few, so we're tryingt o figure out the same thing.

Good luck

Get a small glass, like a shot glass, and put vinager in it and set it near the plant. For some reason gnats are drawn to it and if you check the glass in a couple of days you will see a bunch of them either floating at the top of sunk to the bottom.

These are little flies sometimes called gnats. To get rid of them you'll need to add a little pesticide to your plants water. This will kill them before they hatch.
