Like my older brother who went deep sea fishing for the first time and thought he had a whopper, but pulled up one leg of a fisherman's wader hip high filled with water and seaweed!

When we moved to Scotland from the South of England in 1968 we used to go to Loch Lomond every weekend. Dad had taken us fishing when we were younger when we lived in England and he came home on leave from the Royal Navy. This time though he was stationed at the submarine base at Faslane (there were demonstrators outside the main gate all the time because it was something to do with nuclear missiles or something). and he came home every day. It had been a dream of his to take me and my brother, fly-fishing so every weekend we got a lesson in this or that before even casting a line. We'd learned how to make flies and how to put a new line on the rod, how the reel worked etc and then came the big day to go fly fishing. It was a beautiful day and he found the perfect spot. The first time I tried to do the casting out with the flick of the wrist and everything, the fly shot behind me and got snagged in a bush lol. He was a patient man and sorted it all out again for me , went through the tutorial again and I was ready....quick flick and poor old dad let out an awful scream....I'd snagged him on his leg and the fly lodged itself so far in that he couldn't get it out again!! That was the end of our fishing trip coz he had to go to the nearest hospital to have it removed and he had to have a tetanus shot as well lol, which he was not happy about! Another time we went deep-sea fishing and I fell in and nearly drowned and my brother went fishing with some mates of his and he snagged a skull out of the local resevoir! Other parts of the skeleton were discovered when the police were informed and it turned out to be someone who had been missing for years that had fallen in there and drowned. Brother got a reward of 10/- (10 shillings) for that!
Sorry, gone on a bit with this one but you've brought back some lovely memories to me about my dad, whom I adored and haven't got over his passing nearly 14 years ago yet. xx

The first fish I ever caught was the most unique I can think of. I was 3 years old. I managed to catch a bundle of moss. But as I reeled in the moss to get it off of my line, I realized that an unfortunate fish was tangled in the moss that I had caught. So I got a fish.

Ya, I have caught a clam, turtle, mudpuppie ( really ugly critter) and last fall I actually hooked a rock and pulled it in. The biggest thing I ever caught was a Dog fish , it was a real fight..I returned them all to swim another day . ( except for the rock)

Seems like the only thing "weird" that I catch when I go fishing is a COLD. The lakes and streams here don't seem to be stocked, so I never catch anything there.

I have gone ocean fishing on fishing trips but with the cost, the fish comes out to about $30/pound. Cheaper to go to the market.

"Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day but teach him to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day."

Was fishing off my dock for Appaloosa catfish and caught a saltwater turtle that weighed 150 pounds. Fishing in freshwater lake that had been dammed up since 1926 so I concluded that the turtle was 80+ years old. Let it go after pictures taken.

I caught an octopus, and it cartwheeled right across the floor of the boat, and right up the side wall, and back into the ocean...Being a mid-west farm boy, that was really something to see...
