What about this one:

"Shaking hands, a common way of formal greeting, is most advisable when being introduced to a new acquaintance."

That one works, doesn't it?

An appositive is a noun phrase that names the subject in 2 different ways, like "my sister Alice", or "Rover, my dog."

Shaking can be a verb or an adjective, so maybe you could say something about "Shakira, the hip shaking singer". Not impossible, I guess, but pretty awkward.

PS, grammar
