I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant ES. It has 45,000 original miles on it. Everytime I brake at a stop sign or a red light or whatever, I hear a loud "whirrrrrrr" sound coming from my brakes combined with a rough grinding. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front of the car. I have brand new brake pads and rotors on the car so I'm not sure why this is happening. Anyone know what's going on?

1. Check the back brakes too.. just to rule them out..

2. Aftermarket stuff or stock? Metalic brake pads?
make sure nothing is rubbing if you have custom calipers make sure their not rubbing..

3. Basicly take it apart and look for signs of metal to metal..
Calipers froze up burned out your pads..

4. OK I did know a guy that was doing his own brake job and was consuming a little bud light during the job and he accidently put one of the pads in backwards.. metal toward the rotor and pad toward the piston of the caliper.. Made a hell of a noise..

Good Luck.. Hope you figure it out..

i would still check the front brakes because there might be a caliper that is hanging up and just ruined your new pads. but don't rule out the back brakes either check them too

You put off brand brake pads on the car. I've never had noisy brakes from stock pads after hundreds of brake jobs performed.
