Rosemary Banks has been New Zealand’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations since June 2005, a period dominated by the 60 th anniversary World Summit and by the arrival of new Secretary General Ban Ki moon.
She has had a close involvement with the United Nations since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1975, where her first assignment was in the United Nations
and Commonwealth Division. Ms Banks was seconded to UNESCO before postings to the New Zealand Permanent Missions in Geneva and New York respectively, early in her career.
Prior to her posting to New York, she was Deputy Secretary with responsibility for multilateral affairs.
