It's actually the age AND size, at least in the United States.

In the United States, the term "pig" refers to a younger domesticated swine weighing less than 120 pounds (50 kilograms), and the term "hog" refers to older swine weighing more than 120 lbs. In Great Britain all domesticated swine are referred to as pigs.

Strictly speaking, it is a pig from birth until it is weaned. Then it becomes a shoat. A hog is sexually mature. In common parlance, though, the distinctions are blurred.

It's the same animal...

A pig is a juvenile animal.
A hog is an adult animal...and typically the male. (The female is a sow.)

pig = hog
but you go 'hog wild' not 'pig wild' ...you 'pig out' which means to over-eat, but ~ and this is really strange ~ if you eat too much, you are either a pig OR a hog ....and you are a 'road hog' but not a 'road pig' (no such animal) ~
and they are 'gound hogs" .... and 'guinea pigs'

And the sizes differ, according to their age or specific kind ..... hope this helps
