There are a variety of birth controls out there for a reason. Not one of them is best or safest for EVERYONE. You need to do your homework, talk to your Dr. and find out which is best and safest for YOU!!! We can only give our opinions, and advice, but not reccommend what you should start taking.
Bearing that in mind, I have taken 4 kinds. The shot, the 3 month pill, orthotricyclen and orthotrci lo.
This is what I THINK of these products.
The shot was devine. I hate needles and my mother MADE ME, I had no choice. If I could get over the fear, I'd do it again. It's a bit expensive to do because you are essentially paying for 3 months at once though. I didn't gain weight and had no mood swings.
The 3 month pill was crap. I take pills CORRECTLY and within 6 months I was pregnant. The Dr. said "OOPS... some people will ovulate anyway if their bodies reject the pill after a couple months into a pack." F-THAT! And since I was on the pill and not EXPECTING a period, I didn't notice until I start feeling tired all the time and suddenly threw up in the shower one morning. I was over 8 weeks before I even found OUT and they reccommended abortion since I had been drinking and taking birth control pills while pregnant for over 2 months. There was almost guarenteed problems with the baby.
ortho tri cyclen. I was on it for a couple years. It was effective, but I gained weight and was MOODY! I would go from angry to crying to laughing in 5 minutes. i showed actual signs of bi-polar disorder! ouch! not to mention I had to take it at night before i went to SLEEP because it made me nauseous the first couple hours I took it and i had to sleep through the nausea each night.
ortho tri cyclen lo.... is perfect for me. less hormones = happier Puredoller! lol still just as effective with less side effects. no weight gain, no nausea, no mood swings!
I recommend ortho trici lo.
However, since that pregnancy issue with the pill I have been terrified of it happening again and still like to use alternate forms of BC even though I am on the pill. I will sometimes use a condom or spermacidal lubricant as a back up.

Look at that site for reviews.
Condoms are great. 99% effective.
The shot, is horrible. Don't get it. Check out the reviews. Been there, done that, horrible side affects.
Kariva, the pill. No issues with it.
Pills/etc vary from person to person. Safest form is condoms as there are no hormones. They are as effective as the pill/shot/patch/ring/etc.
Just remember nothing is 100% effective when you have sex. Any time you have sex you risk the chance of pregnancy.

I would say the pill. I have been taking ortho-novum for the past 4 years. I haven't had any side effects or weight gain. I think this is the safest option for birth control.

Probably a combination of methods is the best and safest. Getting on the pill or shot as well as using backup methods like condoms will lessen your chances of getting pregnant as well as protect against STDs and other problems.
