If it is a real antique then the correct way is to french polish it. Most antiques have a shellac finish and the white spots usually come for getting moisture on the surface of the furniture piece.

As crazy as this sounds, it usually works. Rub in a thick layer of mayonnaise into the blemish. leave it for a day or two and wipe it off. I know this works for white rings left by drinking glasses. However, you said the pot was hot. If it actually burnt or melted the varnish you will have to strip and reapply varnish over the entire surface to make it look uniform.

Depends on what caused the spots. If it is just marks from a glass sweating, the mayo will work. If it is from something hot being set on it, you will probably need to strip and refinish. Hot items pull the moisture from the wood up into the clear finish and is not reachable with cleaners.

i know this might sound silly, but ive heard if you rub cigarette ash into it, it removes the white spots.
or you could try brown nugget, and then a good polish.

get wood stripper from Lowes and strip the table of it's polish and refinnish it. I do it all the time and the best part is you can refinnish it another wood shade or they even have wood finnish in colors like pink green blue, etc. depending on yoiur color scheme.
