My son was induced and took about 12 hours from start to finish. My daughter was born in about 30 mins, we barely made it in the hospital lobby! I was induced with my third so I would not have her at home (lol) and she was born about 2 hours after the induction started. Now that I am pregnant with #4 I am very nervous about going into labor early and being at home alone. My husband works an hour away and my mom lives 25 mins away as well. I am trying to decide when to induce. I dont want to too early, but having a baby alone is not my ideal situation. Anyone else ever have to deal with this?

Talk to your doctor. If you have a history of fast labors they might induce you to control the situation, and they would probably induce you at about 38-39 weeks (unless your other babies were born earlier).

Every labor is unpredictable. Generally, yes, labors get shorter, but after the 2nd or third it becomes less predictable. I delivered a woman last week who had the same thing - 3 super fast labors. She chose to be induced with this one, and she was laboring for 9 hours. So be prepared that it might not be as fast as the rest. Especially when you are induced early - if your cervix isn't ripe it will take longer.

I went fast with my one and only (no time for meds, and no need), I was in labor/delivery for only 4 hours and I wasn't even sure that we should have left the house! Thank god we did because when I was checked at the hospital my water broke and I was at 5cm already!
Anyway, I would suggest talking with your doctor and then seeing if anyone can stay with you or you with them until you go into labor,if nothing else it will give you peace of mind to know you are not alone! If that is not possible then just be on guard, I am sure by number 4 you know what you are dealing with so you can react faster at first signs! You may want to keep a phone close by at all times as well in case you are alone when it happens you can call everyone you need to with the hospital, cab or other service to get you to the hospital first in demand!

I was 30mins with the 4th, the first was 8 hrs, 2nd was 3hrs 3rd was 1hr, and i delivered him at the hospital by myself because the doctor would not listen to me, and hubby had left to get help.

Frankly, I'd have the baby at home, but not everybody is comfortable with that. Talk to your doctor and arrange for another induction. I wouldn't do this more than a week before due date, but certainly take your doctor's advice on it.

I'm not sure if this will apply to you, but my best friend has a similar situation. With her third, she went to the hospital as soon as she felt any signs of labor, even though she knew they might send her home. Part of her problem the first two times was that she ignored labor signs and put off going to the hospital- and then almost had her baby in the car.

As you probably know, induction isn't fun, and it increases the risks that something can go wrong. I would avoid being induced if I could.

Could you ask your mom to come stay with you when you get closer to your due date? Is there anyone else close by who could take you to the hospital if need be?

in my case...yes, all three were different and came faster than the previous...maybe before scheduling the induction you can arrange for "helpers"...neices, friends, family ect to be there with you and mostly to help with your other children! Good luck to you Mama!

My doctor just recently informed me that they've uped the date for inductions/planned c-sections from being okay at 38 weeks, to 39 weeks now. So talk to your doctor first.
