Obviously, to some degree it will, but historically wise, if the Patriots lose in the AFC Championship or the Super Bowl, they'll be 17-1 or 18-1 respectively. At that point, do we still match them with the 1972 Dolphins because they met/passed their win total, or do we disregard them because of the loss?

No they would always be known as the only 16-0 team in league history. That can not be taken away. But if they were to lose in the playoffs there would be that "but they did not win it all (superbowl) also attached.

in the event that they lose in the playoffs, it is going to shrink the group traditionally. they're going to suggested as a great group. yet you wont be waiting to communicate approximately them without affirming the reality that they could no longer circulate each and every of how.

I wouldn't say that the 16-0 should be disregarded completely, but if they lose in the playoffs their season will definitely not be as impressive as the '72 Dolphins' season.

As a Patriots fan i will be straight up , i will be bulls*** if the Patriots do not win the Super Bowl and i WILL feel that the undefeated season was all for not . I might've been the only Patriots fan that was so upset Saturday night not because they only won by 3 but because The Patriots fell out of their whole We Are Team philosiphy ,when the hell did they start caring about individual achievements , ,granted they were trying to make history i understand but at what cost Moss almost got hurt , i heard a big echo acrossed New England when he was on his knees crouched down . Im happy they won ,just not the way they went about it neither team shoudve played past the 2nd .

Lose? That's what other teams do.

yes, simply put....they beat some good teams in the reg. season but if they can't win it all, what was the point?

I don't think they'll be disregarded, but it will definitely knock them off that level. I know it seems crazy that an 18-1 season can be considered a "failure," but I think it would be seen that way by many, including the Patriots themselves.

It doesn't matter that they've passed the win total of the Fish - they need to see this through, or a lot of the accolades will quickly disappear.

Nope. They still broke tons of NFL records and achieved a perfect regular season. That is historical enough.
