Did you ever get in trouble for opening up those quart or half gallon wax cartons on the wrong side? And end up spilling the milk?

Hated them when they first came out coz couldn't open them without losing half the contents. Sometimes the cartons were so thick at the opening part that even cutting along the dotted line would result in losing my rag at it and ripping or trying to rip it open and spilling the milk coz there was a hole somewhere from messing about for ages and the milk came out of that not from where it was supposed to come out!!

When I was a kid we brought it up from the barn in a pail so I never got to experience the glass or the cartons until I was married and had a home of my own.

Yes not in a while, as mine usually come in the plastic jug now.
But they used to be in the cartons, didn't you used to hate when that happened. I used to love the old glass bottles, it was much colder then, and the cream used to settle at the top.

Milk bottles were phased out in the late 60s, but I still see milk in glass bottles (quarts and pints) from a smaller dairy, or sometimes the health-food store carries milk in bottles. However, I buy milk in bags -- it's very handy, and a bag of milk can be frozen for later. I never buy milk in the waxed carton (except for cream.)

yep, and in school, I was always the dweeb with a tear in the middle of the 'drinking spout' and milk on the front of my shirt.

I believe it was in the 60's when the glass milk bottles became obsolete.

My daughter lives in Parker, Colo. There is a place there that still has glass bottles and still delivers. Yeah both kids look like their dad. Ha Ha
