A bad thermostat normally.

You need to get it checked STAT.

When my cars would overheat it turned out to be some of these things: I would recommend a mechanic check it out.

Thermostat is sticking or antifreeze hose came loose or not enough water in radiator or not enough antifreeze for degrees conditions, and the worst sinerial is that the motor has huge problems.

you would make it overheat by not putting water and antifreeze in the radiator and not enough oil

*Check and tighten the clamps connecting the rubber coolant hoses connected to the metal ends of the heater core tubes.

*Check If the heater/defroster fan doesn't blow toasty warm when the engine is hot, you are probably low on coolant. or have to bleed the system more. It helps to park the car on a grade (front end high), turn the heater temperature control up all the way, and idle the engine with the radiator cap off. Then, fill the cooling system. Note: Use distilled water.

Hope this helps!

All answers are good but check water and oil.

They may be leaking out or the pumps or sensors are not working properly or are failing.

Take it to an auto work shop.

Sounds like a problem with the thermostat. You may need to add coolant to the radiator too, water coolant mix may not be correct. Take it to a mechanic though because it could be something else as well as lead to other problems.

No fluid in the radiator or a bad water pump. It could be a bad thermostat but usually when they fail you get no heat and the engine runs cold. If it is the water pump and it runs off the timing belt it will be expensive. If the water pump is not run off the timing belt and has its own belt it could be that belt is loose or broken. Start by checking the fluid. With the engine COLD, pull the radiator cap and see if you can see the fluid. If not, you may have a leak. If you can see the fluid, start the car and watch the fluid. You should see it start to flow within the radiator. If it flows, the water pump is working. Good luck.

Something could be wrong with the radiator. Also, check your coolant levels. If it is over hearting, don't drive it!

the Chrysler 2.4 liter engine needs to be "burped" if you have had any engine work done. the easiest way to do this is to remove the radiator cap when the engine is cold . and start the engine and turn on your heater full blast and let it get to operating temps and let it run for 10 or so minutes . That should take care of the problem . then replace the radiator cap.

A leak in the radiator or the radiator running dry - it needs to be topped up with water every month or so. The Radiator is what cools the engine - it is a series of pipes that goes all round the hottest parts of the engine and flows water past them in order to carry the heat away. If it were to leak and lose it's water or if the water was to be left un-topped-up.

Then boom - the dashboard thermometer flies up.

If you don't want to spend the money in a mechanic - open up the bonnet and put water in the screw cap with something on it which indicates that "water goes here" if you arn't sure where to put the water then ask a neighbour.

Hope this helps xxx
