I'm giving my 60 day notice to my landlord today. I don't expect trouble as he would like my apartment vacant so he can charge the next tenant more (it's allowed by law in Ontario). I just don't want any trouble...so I'm putting my more vauable stuff in public storage. Any tips or experiences to share?

Have the landlord do a walkthrough at the property with you present. Bring a video camera and tape the whole thing. Make sure you get the LL on camera stating that he's aware that the camera is taping him.

Is the landlord holding a security deposit? I had to put down one months rent as a security deposit, so I just didn't pay my last months rent, just in case they were going to hit me with some bogus charges and keep my deposit.

Make sure that you fill in any holes from hanging pictures etc. I had a landlord charge me for every single hole that I had missed. Also, did you give your landlord written notice. If you did it verbally, go ahead and write out a short letter, (anything over 25 words is too much) to cover yourself. Does your lease say anything about cleaning the carpets? If so, make sure you get a receipt to turn into the landlord.
