The signs clearly tell you that clean plates are required for reservice at the buffet, but the waiter's will actually rescue your soiled fork from underneath your dirty plate, used napkins and all.

I think it is because so many times places will run out of silverware during a rush or on a busy night. I know it can be frustrating to have to ask, I also like a clean fork when I go back for round two. I have started asking for extra rolls of silverware when they come greet the table. Then it is never a problem and you will be happy knowing you have your extra fork. Happy eating!

Happened all the time when I lived in SA. Now I just tend to avoid the buffets.
