Go to "Amnesty international USA" website and see if this helps. No judicial system is perfect, but I feel that ours is one of the best. With our appeals process, many people on death row do get, contrary to popular belief, some of the best lawyers during this process, many specialize in this very thing and it is mainly free of charge. I believe certain "Hannis" crimes deserve the death penalty. Why sentence someone to 300 yrs in prison, that is so violent that they must be kept in a cell 24/7 because anyone they come in contact with will be attacked and or killed? Think of the victims and their families, when you kill someone you take away everything that they will ever have, their life. Some innocent people will die in our process, but in all, most do deserve it. Check out this web site for more info. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/cp.htm, and search capital punishment 2007 or 2008.

Percentage of innocent people: Impossible to calculate.
Percentage of guilty people: 100%
Percentage of not guilty people: 0%
Guilty or not is determined by the jury based on the best evidence. It is only indirectly related to actual innocence of the crime.
OJ showed us that being "not guilty" and being innocent are not the same thing.

The death penalty is not murder if used properly. It is a last resort for people who have shown that have no ability to or desire to live properly in society. It is no different than putting down an aggressive dog--it is done for the safety of the community, not in retaliation.

DNA evidence has removed many from death row. We should replace Death Row with life without parole. Nobody deserves to die needlessly. Execution is state sponsored murder.

The people on death row are never innocent. Some may be not guilty however, this has been proved through DNA testing. I would guess that this total is less than 1%. I don't know how long people sit on death row before being executed but would guess 15 to 20 years. Way too long. Already answered your last question.

Since the 60s theres been over 400 people exonerated from death row. I don't know what percentage that would be of the overall people on death row but percentages don't matter, 1 innocent person on death row is enough to condemn the entire system.
