I have many favorite phrases and philosophy that I had came across till now.

There is one that says: " People are like stained glass windows, they are beautiful only when there is a light shining from within. " [forgotten it's by who..]

I find this a very sweet and short and true saying.
:-)

Pride is something to be taken in one's accomplishments, not in one's birthright.

It's, well, my own. It's a way I have of reminding myself that my actions matter more than my nature. A person shouldn't be proud of being what they are. They should be proud of having done what they have done.

Yes,to answer ur 2nd question first!

And it was-and still is-the following,

'Dare to use your knowledge',or something like that(that i cant remember the exact wording is unimportant here).
It was said i believe by the european guy Kant, and was(still is) quoted by one of the best "philosophers" of the 20th century,in his book called In search of a better world.
Whether y'all read it or not,is not (just) the point.
It comes-from chapter 10 there,at the start of a short essay called Emancipation thro knowledge; This essay is that good-i cannot see why it has not made-its-way into the schools and colleges here.
It tells of the civil war,and how the flourishing southern way-of-life was changed.
As we now know, most if not all wars DO THIS,and not just to the losing side!

So,and i cannot remember ever saying or exhorting my reader(s) to do this(well,we are on the verge of an exciting and wonderful New Year!!);:Do not ferget, criticism is almost everything, especially in our continuous and exhilarating quest for knowledge(therefore in my and especially Your life!);but we can be TOO critical-what i mean is that there should be a "balance"- criticism of OUR OWN THEORY OR OUTLOOK must be ever present;it must be used, even if we are dealing with a difficult subject or question;the true answer we seek may be 'just around-the-corner',so to speak, but we could well be stopped(even forever in time)by not reviewing and criticising the, what i call, the 'tendency' or "background knowledge" within that all-important question(or set-of-questions);(this background type knowledge if of course, via the work of Sir karl).
So have a good and safe New year's eve, and a happy new year too.

Socrates:

"Know Thyself."

He was not speaking of your favorite color or ice cream. It was about the Spiritual inner Self. The resource below explains it... and another way of saying the same thing... "Be still, and know that I am God." I think that is from the Psalms.

If understood and followed, this saying changes everything for the better.

The optimist believes that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears that this is true.
