I have been told by my doctor that the treatment will cost about £4500 (IVF and ICSI) as my partner has a low sperm count but was told that we will have to pay for it ourselves. However I thought you got the first attempt free and know of others who have done so, my doctors answer was that I am too young, I'm 32. Is it really a post code lottery? We have already paid out £2000 for a vasectomy reversal which was a sucess but no luck getting pregnant due to a low sperm count. Any suggestions anyone.

We are currently undergoing IVF and having to pay for it.

In Australia the Govt does provide some assistance but it is still $4000 -$7000.00 per cycle.

It would be great if the Govt would provide more assistance but regardless it is a cost we are willing to pay. The way I see it is that at the end of the day it would be a car loan (probably a really good car with the amount of times we have to try) BUT I seriously dont care if it means I get to hold my baby in my arms.

Good luck with it all.

Ive never known of anyone getting a free treatment, and if it does happen its probably only at certain clinics or through certain doctors or programs. I really cant imagine someone walking in off the street and being given free treatments.

I know its a very sore subject with myself too! having tried for child for 2.5yrs, and currently taking clomid, with no success. We have been told that we will have to pay for IVF as my partner already has a child. But i find this so unfair as its me who's the problem, don't i have any rights to have a family? What difference does it make if he already has a child? I can't understand that the reason they give you is because of your partners sperm count you can't have IVF i'd question this!!!

In the US, I am not aware of any free treatment. I have a friend who is 33 and went through IVF and had to pay for all her treatments.

Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!
