No, stretch marks will appear during the pregnancy as your skin over stretches on the inside and repairs itself. Some women are lucky enough not to have a problem with this - I think it depends a lot of skin type. Me however - I have them something awful! You may have a little extra skin after the fact because it did stretch even though you didn't get stretch marks... but in some cases (I wish I were one) the skin goes back to normal after a while. You are probably right and she is just probably jealous... I know I would be! :-)
Best wishes!

I went for my last check up at the doctors the day before I gave birth and the nurse even remarked how I didn't have any stretch marks and was lucky. When I gave birth though they appeared all around my belly button. My belly button was very stretched during the pregnancy and a major outie, but I didn't notice any marks until after the baby was born. I thought I had escaped them!

I was one of the lucky ones that NEVER got a single stretch mark in my previous 2 pregnancies. This is my 3rd pregnancy and still no stretch marks at 16 weeks. I do have on the small side babies though (1st born at 5lbs 14 ozs and 2nd at 4lbs 7ozs), but genetically....my mom did not get any stretch marks either. Don't know any tricks to follow to avoid them, other than just keep your skin moist so your skin cells will stretch easier as your belly grows. Friends that did get stretch marks did not get theirs until the last 4-8 weeks of pregnancy.

RE:
Do stretch marks appear before or after?
Last night I was showing my mother in law my big tummy and was saying how excited I was that I had no stretch marks. She then told me that they wouldn't appear until after I had the baby. I didn't get any with my first pregnancy so I don't know if she is right or if I am right. I...

They appear during your pregnancy. If you didn't have them with your first pregnancy, you probably won't get them with your second, as long as you don't gain a rapid amount of wait in a short period of time. Sometimes you don't notice some stretch marks you got during the pregnancy until after you have the baby because you can't see them, for instance your thighs because you can't see them under your belly. That could be what she meant

I got most of mine before, but I did have a few pop up after, as well. But they've all faded to a white and my daughter is a year and a half.
It sucks that there's nothing you can do to avoid them.
I hope you're lucky to not having any again this time, but you and your skin are a bit older this time, so your skin my not have the elasticity that it had before!

You actually get them during your pregnancy, however with your skin being so stretched it is sometimes hard to see them until after the baby is born. Once the pressure is off of your skin they then can be easily seen. You can sometimes feel them easier than see them. I checked myself during pregnancy and never found them until my stomach was down. And I had them pretty bad. Congrats on your little one.
